Happy Retirement Sharon!
Dear Friends of Cambridge Camping,
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I share the bittersweet news that Cambridge Camping’s longtime Executive Director, Sharon Zimmerman, will retire at the end of August after more than 10 years of leadership.
When Sharon joined Cambridge Camping, the organization was facing significant financial and operational challenges. Through her determination, vision, and deep commitment to children and families, she rebuilt its fundraising capacity, strengthened and expanded its programs, and positioned Cambridge Camping for long-term sustainability. During her tenure, thousands of children gained access to summer camp and other enriching experiences that would otherwise have been beyond their families’ reach.
Sharon led Cambridge Camping through periods of enormous change, including staff transitions, program evolution, and the unprecedented challenges of the pandemic and its aftermath. Throughout it all, she brought energy, creativity, compassion, and an unwavering belief in the transformative power of camp.
Cambridge Camping is well prepared for this transition. Recently the Board appointed Jane Hirschi as Interim Executive Director to oversee day-to-day operations and support the search for the organization’s next permanent leader. This summer, CCAccess is once again thriving, connecting more than 300 children with meaningful day and overnight camp experiences.
As Sharon begins her next chapter, she leaves behind a stronger, more resilient Cambridge Camping and a legacy that will continue to shape the organization for years to come. We are grateful for her leadership, her perseverance, and the lasting impact she has made on Cambridge Camping and the children and families we serve.
With gratitude,
Sonia Turek, Board President
