Cambridge Half Marathon Benefits Cambridge Camping
Over 6,000 runners participated in the first ever Cambridge Half Marathon this November. How wonderful that the organization chosen to be a beneficiary of the race was Cambridge Camping in its mission to help kids from under-resourced circumstances get to summer camp. The hard work of the runners, the community, organizers and the generosity of Cambridgeside Galleria resulted in a $25,000 donation to Cambridge Camping!
The marathon was a wonderful event that was successful on many levels. The funds raised by the event will go a very long way in creating opportunities for children to experience summer camp activities such as hiking a mountain, swimming in the ocean (many for the first time!), creating art, petting live animals at a nature preserve, and learning to ride a bike.
As board members spoke with the crowds about the mission at Cambridge Camping, Executive Director Sharon Zimmerman was interviewed by WHDH and NECN and was able to share how important Cambridge Camping's mission is to the community and to the 450 kids served every year.
Cambridge Camping hopes, with support from the entire Cambridge and Belmont communities, the half marathon will become an annual event, vital for community building and the sport of running.

Cambridge Camping Executive Director Sharon Zimmerman was presented with the award atop a Duck Boat and was able to thank and congratulate marathon participants!
Our dedicated board and staff (and one super talented intern!) were so proud to be a part of the event.
